Serious Injuries/Fatalities
Supervisors and/or Campus Safety contact EHS as soon as possible to report work related death, serious injury, or illness. EHS immediately (within 8 hours) reports any serious injury, illness, or fatality to Cal/OSHA as required by Cal/OSHA (8 CCR 342).
Definition of Serious
Cal/OSHA defines an injury or illness as “serious” if it:
- Requires inpatient hospitalization for a period in excess of 24 hours for other than medical observation;
- An employee suffers a loss of any member of the body; or
- An employee suffers any serious degree of permanent disfigurement
