Program Format

Our program consists of eight undergraduate level courses that can be taken in either our summer or weekend program formats. Of the eight courses, seven are required to receive the certificate (ACTG 181-187). Both formats fulfill the accounting requirement to sit for the California CPA Exam.

In order to successfully complete the program, students must receive a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 as well as a passing grade in each individual class. A course grade of less than C- requires a meeting with the CAAP Faculty Director to obtain permission to continue in the program. Two grades of less than C- will result in automatic dismissal from the program. Those who successfully complete the program will earn a Certificate of Advanced Accounting Proficiency from Santa Clara University.

Priority consideration will be given to students who enroll in the entire certificate program (ACTG 181-187). Individuals who can demonstrate the need for specific accounting classes will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

Please feel free to contact our office directly at (408) 554-4522 or by email at caap@scu.edu should you have any questions.

The summer program can be completed in approximately 14 weeks (June–September). Students attend class for four hours Monday through Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 1 p.m. Students in one of our summer cohorts are encouraged to limit non-academic activities (including work) while enrolled in the summer program, and should anticipate six to eight hours of daily out-of-class study. This format is perfect for recent grads and those in a position to devote their whole summer to becoming an accountant.

The weekend program can be completed in approximately ten months (September–June). Students in the weekend program take the courses every Sunday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. with a one-hour break. Each course lasts about five weeks. This program format is recommended for working professionals and those looking to become an accountant in an accelerated format without breaking their weekday commitments.
