Professional Development Seminars

Design Thinking in Action: Boosting Creativity and Innovation! - Saturday, July 14th, 2018; 9am - 12pm; Lucas 126 (Forbes Conference Room)

If you have not yet heard of this innovative problem-solving strategy, or if you’ve heard about it and wonder if it could be useful to you and your team, this workshop is the answer. This interactive workshop introduces the design thinking process and gives you a hands-on opportunity to apply design thinking to a ubiquitous problem of today’s workplace (see problem definition below).

In this workshop, guest speaker Pierre Khawand will teach the key concepts and techniques of design thinking as well as work collaboratively with others to design a product. You will leave not only with a better understanding of key design thinking concepts but also equipped with useful techniques that you can apply right away. This workshop will give you the tools you need to think creatively and work collaboratively to solve problems and innovate solutions.

Career Trek

San Francisco Career Trek: Amazon Web Services, Autodesk, LInkedIn - Friday, June 22nd, 2018; 8:30am - 3pm; Several locations in San Francisco

This all-day Career Trek includes spending a couple hours at each company to meet key representatives, learn more about each company and get a firsthand sense of the "look and feel" of each:
- DocuSign
- Spotify
- LInkedIn

Check-in at the first company is tentatively planned for 8:30am in San Francisco. Participants are expected to attend for the entire day, and must provide their own transportation to and from San Francisco and between sites, which may include some combination of automobile and/or walking.

Workshop: Improve Your Odds, Get the Interview - Deconstructing a Job Listing

Learn how to improve the chances of landing a interview using deconstruction. 
 You will build skills on using a job posting to better brand your candidacy. Deconstruction provides the framework to understand how your skills match against the company needs.

Workshop: Behavioral Interviewing
Thursday, August 2nd, 2018; 11:45am and 12:45pm; Lucas 108

Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. In the behavioral interview, candidates are asked to provide specific examples of past behavior and explain how they would respond to hypothetical on-the-job situations. Learn common behavioral questions and a proven framework to answer them effectively.
