Four History Seniors Present at Phi Alpha Theta Convention

Four members of the class of 2018 represented the department brilliantly at the Biennial Convention of Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society) held in New Orleans, January 3-6.

The more than 500 conference attendees included 450 student presenters and faculty moderators from universities all across the country.  SCU’s students and their paper titles:

Cedric Brenninkmeijer, presenting "Must Interventionist Uplift Empower Women or Continue this Cycle of Oppression"

Emma Chen, presenting "Black Face, Queer Space: The Influence of Black Lesbian and Transgender Blues Women of the Harlem Renaissance on Emerging Queer Communities"

Department Chair Nancy Unger (far left) enjoys some New Orleans cuisine with the student scholars.

Katherine Porter,  "Press coverage of Internal Divisions over Reform Judaism, 1905-1920: A Classic Tale of the American Progressive Movement"

All four presented beautifully their original, thoroughly researched and thoughtfully written papers, and all four generated thoughtful questions and commentary from their audiences.

Congratulations to these four exceptional students!!
