Let’s Talk About Math: Parents and Teachers Talking And Doing Mathematics Together

Heising-Simons Foundation Grant

Kathy Stoehr, Ph.D. has received a grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation for her project called "Let's Talk About Math: Parents and Teachers Talking and Doing Math Together." Working in collaboration with Marta Civil Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, the project focuses on designing engagement in mathematics that is based on a two-way dialogue between school and home, in particular in schools that are culturally and linguistically diverse with traditionally underserved students. In order to address the overall goal of the project, which is to increase children's opportunities to learn mathematics, the research model involves leadership teams of parents and teachers exploring together the mathematics learning opportunities that occur in the home and community and making these connections in school mathematics.
