Remote Windows Access to the Design Center
Terminal Services is a remote client to server capability that allows SCU Engineering students/staff/faculty to have access to run Windows applications from any computer that has internet access and the remote desktop connect application installed.
What software can I access?
We make an effort to mirror the lab software compliment to the remote servers. However there are some software that do not work properly in a remote environment or their licensing prohibits such a use. Software that are heavy CAD type programs like, PTC Pro/E and Autodesk products currently is not available remotely.

How to connect?
Starting with Windows Vista and onward (Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, etc..), Remote Desktop or (Remote Desktop Services, RDS) is built into the operating and requires no extra installation. However if you use macOS or Linux you'll need to find a 3rd party RDS/RDP software. For mac users, consider the below links:

- Download the following file: dcengr-v2.rdp (right click and save-as) and place it somewhere easily accessible to you (like your desktop).
- To connect to the Windows Terminal Services, all you have to do now is make sure you have an internet connection and your internal firewall allows TCP 3389. Once you’ve checked your internet settings, just double click on the file dcengr-v2.rdp and you’ll be presented with a login window.
- To log into Terminal Services, you will use your Design Center account entered in the following format: email@example.com and your Design Center Windows password. If you are currently using an older Remote Desktop Connect Software the username format is just: username.

There are a few things to know about Terminal Services. It works very much like sitting in front of a Windows computer in the Design Center; however there are a few rules:
- You cannot have multiple connections to Terminal Services. One remote session per use. If you try another simultaneous connection, you will not be able to log in.
- This service is not intended for use from within the Design Center Lab.
- To keep the session active, you must be logged in and actively working on the system. If the system remains idle for more than 1 hour, the system will automatically log you out. If you disconnect by closing the remote connect desktop software (clicking on the “X” icon at the top right corner of the program) or get disconnected because of internet problems, your last active session will remain, with everything running as you left it, for 30 minutes. If you reconnect to Terminal Services during these 30 minutes the system will automatically connect you back to this active session. If you don’t connect back during these 30 minutes your session will be automatically logged off and any running programs will be canceled and shutdown.
- To properly disconnect from Terminal Services, you should log off as you normally would on any Windows computer (i.e. Click on START, Log Off.) This is the proper way to save your session.
