About the Program
Highlights of the Johnson Scholar Experience
A Diverse Community of Scholars
Johnson Scholars join a diverse cohort of the University's top-tier students with unparalleled access to faculty interaction, mentoring, and one-to-one engagement.
SCU's Honors Program
Johnson Scholars are invited to participate in Santa Clara University’s Honors Program. Classes are based in a small, seminar-style that emphasizes interaction with professors and to challenge students to make deeper connections between their classes and the world.
After Johnson Scholars have completed their first year at Santa Clara, they are eligible to apply for up to $7,500 in professional development funds. The funds offer scholars the opportunity to design and complete projects of their own creation that best support their development as a leader and scholar. Experiences may include internships, independent research, and cultural immersion travel.
Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J. Keynote
With the support of the program, Johnson Scholars help bring influential speakers to campus. Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J., founder of Homeboy Industries and author of Tattoos on the Heart visited Santa Clara University on May 4, 2017 to share a reflective consideration exploring inclusion, non-violence, unconditional loving-kindness and acceptance.
